The West River is a large warm-water stream that empties into the south end of Canandaigua
Lake. Most of the fishing that is available here is found downstream of the crossing at South Hill
Road, which runs off State Route 245. Averaging about 100 feet in width in the summer, the
West River is heavily encroached upon by trees, weeds, and snags, but is nevertheless navigable
by full-size bass boats. Largemouth bass are the most important species found in the West River,
and the fishing for them can be extremely good.
