Steelhead Alley Guides
Dave Guest
Guided steelhead fishing trips on western New York's Lake Erie tributaries with premier guide David P. Guest
The tributary streams of Lake Erie in western New York, often referred to as "Steelhead Alley", provide some of the best steelhead, brown trout, and lake-run rainbow trout fishing in the country. The best steelhead fishing occurs from October through November, with good fishing often lasting through December. In fact, many fish will remain in the streams throughout the winter, though the icy cold days of January and February will cause most streams to freeze over. But when warmer weather arrives in spring, the streams again come alive, and March, April, and the first half of May also provide prime steelhead fishing.
I have extensive firsthand knowledge of nearly all of western New York's steelhead streams. I was born and raised in the heart of Steelhead Alley and have hiked, explored, and fished just about every steelhead stream in the area. With 25 years of experience, I will do my best to pass my knowledge on to you and your fellow anglers.

Captain Vince Tobia
- Guided fly fishing for steelhead & rainbows on Cattaraugus creek and other Lake Erie tributaries
- Stream-side lodging on the "Catt"
- Affordable Bahamas Bonefishing trips
- Saltwater Adventure Travel
Vince favors traditional fly fishing methods for pursuing our lake-run fish. That means full floating or sink-tip fly lines using speys, wet flies and streamers. Nymph fishing is also productive when conditions dictate.
He strongly supports local conservation efforts, and he presently serves on the Board of Directors of our local Western New York chapter of Trout Unlimited, and is the Editor for our chapter's monthly newsletter.
If you’re interested in experiencing the thrill of catching, and releasing, these hard fighting, majestic fish, contact Vince for an enjoyable outdoor experience.
In addition to guiding locally here in WNY, Vince leads anglers out west to Montana, and to the Bahamas and Mexico in search of exciting flyfishing adventures.
